I am an avid babywearer and especially love my soft structured carriers. I also love to sew and craft. I have decided to marry the two and create lots of fun goodies to go with my carriers! Because I know there are lots of you out there who are crafty like me, I've created some tutorials to help you out. Enjoy!

New Corner Drool Pads Patterns! Tula & Kinderpack Versions

I have had many requests for a darker version of the pattern and help in making these for Tulas or other carriers with narrower straps.

The wait is over! I present to you, new updated patterns for both Tula and Kinderpack!

Tula: download here

Kinderpack: download here

You can find the full tutorial posted here

There are several other updates to these patterns. The overlap of the two back pieces is now smaller. The total height of the drool pads is a little higher. The marks are drawn nice and dark for easy printing. The patterns are in the center of the page so they aren't cut off by the print margin.

Let me know if there are any other things that you would like changed in these patterns and I will do my best to update them in an expeditious manner.

As always, if you enjoyed these patterns, please consider donating to help me write more! Thank you to those who have already made donations. A small donation will go a long way! You can also purchase a printer friendly version of the pattern and tutorial in my Etsy shop.

    1. I believe that the Tula and Boba straps are comparably sized so that pattern should work.

    1. Hi Kelsey, it should be close to the size of the whole page. The pattern should be about 9 inches tall in the middle. Do make sure that your print settings in Adobe are set to actual size, not fit to page. You don't want any scaling.

    2. I completed one suck pad when I realized it was way too small. I must have screwed up something when I printed the pattern for the first time. I reprinted the pattern and it looks like a much more appropriate size now! LOL. Time to try again! Thank you for sharing your pattern.

  4. How tall are the tula suck pad patterns supposed to be? I printed mine and they came out about 8.5in, is that correct?

    1. It should be just shy of 9 inches when printed. As long as your print settings are set to actual size with no scaling, it should print appropriately.

  5. Hi! I'm excited to use your pattern. I just wanted to make sure I'm looking at it right. The dark lines are where to cut the fabric, right? Or should I be cutting outside the lines for a seam allowance? If you cut right on the lines, what sort of seam allowance do you use?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, cut on the dark lines; a 1/4 inch seam allowance is included already.

  6. Do I have to cut one mirror image to make two opposite sided pads? To insure that the snaps are on the back?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, you want them to mirror each other. Either flip the pattern when cutting out one at a time or place your fabric with right or wrong sides together before cutting.

  7. Just a suggestion for those trying to replicate the pattern: I found it easier to print 3 patterns and cut out the separate templates and not worry about folding the paper over. Print it on card stock and it won't rip or tear over time and will save considerably time if you are making a few of these.

  8. Will either of these fit a Pognae?

    1. I'm not sure of the size of a pognae. Measure the strap width. If it's over 3.5", go with the kinderpack pattern.

  9. This pattern and tutorial are great!! I made some pads for my Lillebaby and they are the perfect size to hit below the clips for the neck support. Thanks for making this available!

    1. Did you follow the kinderpack pattern or the tula pattern for the lillebaby?

      Delete
    2. You will want the Tula pattern for the Lilliebaby. Strap width on a Kinderpack is 4.5" and tula is 3.5" which is roughly the same as a Lilliebaby.

  10. Hi, is there a way you can email me the pattern, am not able to print it on one page. it will give me one page to print and only side of the pattern will come up.. I have to shrink it to 60% to get the full thing out... can you please email it to californiaqueen78@yahoo.com thank you Shereen

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hi Shereen, you'll have the same trouble from an emailed copy. You need to adjust your print settings. Make sure that the options to fit to page or scale are not checked. You'll want to print in actual size. Double check both your Adobe Reader settings and your printer settings. Hope that helps!

    1. There isn't a pattern to make an actual Tula, but there are patterns for other soft structured carriers. Sew Toot is one that I know of.

  18. Hi! Would this one or the tula pattern work better for a beco soleil?

    ReplyDelete
  19. ^^ Olivia - The Beco Gemini straps are 3.5". I'd guess the Soleil would be the same, so we would use the Tula pattern.

  21. I can't seem to get this to print correctly. It's eliminating the two curved side pieces, along with the top and bottom lines. Basically all I'm getting is about 2/3 of the two middle lines. Can anyone help with this?

    1. Make sure that you're not using any sort of scale or fit options when printing. Use actual size or scale of 100% and it should print in the right size.

  22. I'm going to attempt this for my Lillebaby this evening! I already feel so simple minded and have confused myself several times. I'm following the Tula pattern, and I'm using flamingo fabric and polka dot, so I want to cut one flamingo fabric on the left and one polka dot on the right so they'll math up-- is that right? And have one of each cut the full pattern.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You want all three pieces for each fabric in each direction. Meaning 3 pieces making the left in flamingos, 3 pieces for the right in flamingos, 3 pieces for the left in polka dot and 3 pieces for the right in polka dot.

  23. Is this pattern only one piece, or should it be 3 pieces? For one piece, do I use the other side, plus the middle to make the back pieces?

    Thanks!

    1. One piece that you fold or you can print 3 and cut on the lines just like it's mentioned in the tutorial. See the tutorial here: http://katieskps.blogspot.com/2015/02/corner-drool-pad-tutorial.html?m=1

  24. What one would I use for my mother's on the move carrier? The tula pattern?

  25. Can these be printed on standard paper and be used as size referance?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Why not make this pattern easier for someone to print on 8-1/2" paper which most printers use so that the pattern will be full size. If it prints on a 11"x17" then draw your pattern in two sections. Use the 11" as the width of the pattern and 8-1/2" as the length when you draw the pattern. Fold the original pattern in half crosswise. Draw a dotted linee on the foldline. Trace the upper part of the pattern on one page and use a dotted line for the bottom edge of this half of the pattern. On the second page trace the bottom half of the pattern and draw the dotted line for the top edge of the remainder of the pattern. When it is printed on the printer, all they have to do is match the dotted lines of each half of the paper pattern pieces together by butting the dotted lines together and tape the two pages together. Also draw a 1" square box at the side of the pattern so people know the scale is correct after they print it. Use a ruler to make your lines straight. Very frustrating when the pattern doesn't print to size and you can see from the comments that this is true!! Just want to help you make a better user friendly pattern because it is a good idea! MM

    1. Hello, the pattern does indeed print on standard 8.5x11 paper. You will have to double check your paper settings in Acrobat to make sure it is set correctly. Each pattern (Tula or KP) will print on its own page, filling nearly the entire 8.5x11 sheet. The additions you've mentioned like the 1" test square are available on the paid version of the pattern that you can find in my Etsy shop for $1.50.

  27. Can you please tell me the size seam allowance to use for Tula hood pattern?

    ReplyDelete
  28. All of my patterns use a quarter inch seam allowance.

  29. I made them and the Tula pattern was wonderful for my Lillebaby! Now, I am wondering...what do you do when you want to flip up the neck support and us the clips to attach the neck support to the straps? The strap covers seem to be in the way? Do you turn around the strap covers so the velcro/attachment is facing out? That's the only solution I could think of.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi there! if you need the suckpads to go wider, towards the hood more, how would you recommend altering the pattern?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Wider meaning they are too tight or you want more coverage? If too tight for your carrier, angle the flared portion a little higher and then round out the bottom to match. If more coverage is needed, extend the angled portion the same on both sides and redraw the curve to fit. Hope that helps!

  33. This was awesome! Thanks so much for posting it.

I made a set for my Tula Free-to-Grow and will be making a second set shortly. I'm a nanny with multiple families that I'll be using my Tula with so being able to swap between suck pads is going to be great!!
